We all live in Vienna or nearby, and we all love playing padel. That’s why I created this little “padel dictionary” with the most important padel terms. The glossary is constantly being expanded and updated because there’s simply so much to say about padel.

Padel accessories: Bags, overgrips, Hesacore grips, sweatbands, pressure containers, and much more: there’s plenty of padel accessories available.
Padel Alterlaa: The popular padel location in Vienna’s 23rd district.
Padel Austria: The official padel federation in Austria. 🇦🇹
Padel APN: Die Austrian Padel Number (APN) dient dazu die Spielstärke Spielerinnen und Spieler zu bewerten. Sie geht von 1,0 für Anfänger bis 8,0 für Profis.

Padel balls: They may look like tennis balls, but they are different: padel balls have lower pressure. They are usually sold in cans of 3 and can stay fresh longer using pressure containers.
Padelbase: A padel location in Vienna’s 13th district with 2 outdoor courts.
Padel Bisamberg: The padel location north of Vienna.
Padel booking: Padel courts are usually booked online. Most venues use their own booking systems, many through the “Eversports” platform.
Bullpadel: One of the best-known brands for padel equipment: rackets, shirts, shoes, and much more.
Padel buying: This usually refers to buying a padel racket.

Padel clubs in Vienna: Here you’ll find a list of padel clubs in Vienna.
Padel confusion or mix-up: It’s true, padel is often confused with stand-up paddle or pickleball.
Padel course: You usually book a padel course directly with a coach or through venues like Padeldome or Padelzone.
Padel court: A padel court is 20 meters long and 10 meters wide with a net in the middle plus glass walls and fences around it. Courts can have different colors, but blue is the most common.
Padel court construction: Some companies specialize in building padel courts. Did you know there are different types of glass walls and lighting systems?
Padel camp: Many coaches and clubs offer padel camps to improve your technique and tactics.
Padel coach: There are private coaches, coaches at padel clubs, online trainers, and many other ways to improve your game.

Padel differences to tennis: Padel has similarities to tennis and squash, but it is a completely different sport with its own rules, tactics, and movement patterns.
Padel discount: Yes, there are actually several ways to play padel more cheaply and save money. Here’s an overview of current padel discounts like ÖAMTC, Drei etc.
Padel dislike: Whaaat? That’s impossible, everybody loves playing padel! 😁
Padeldome: One of the largest padel court providers in Vienna.

Is padel expensive?: Come on! Split between four people, padel usually costs around €8–10 per person per hour, absolutely affordable. 🪙

Padel field: Also called a “padel court” or “padel field”.
Padel Floridsdorf: There are several padel venues in Floridsdorf, including Padeldome Alte Donau, Padelzone Floridsdorf and Sportinsel.
Padel FIP: The international padel federation headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Padel for Fun: Actually called “Padel4Fun – La Ville”, a well-known outdoor padel venue in Vienna Liesing.

Padel gift cards: Oh yes, everybody loves gift cards! 😉 Nearly all padel venues offer vouchers for purchase.
Padel grip tape: This should be replaced regularly. Many players use double grips or a Hesacore undergrip with honeycomb texture 🐝 to prevent slipping, especially with sweaty hands.
Padel gifts: When you love your sport, you also love giving gifts — to others or to yourself. How about a new racket under the Christmas tree 🎄 or for Mother’s Day? 👩‍🦰
Padel groups: Padel is usually played with four players, and sometimes it’s not easy to find people to play with. Thanks to WhatsApp groups from different venues and private communities, you can quickly connect with others.

Padel Hagenbrunn: North of Vienna, right at the city border, you’ll find Padelzone Sport-König in Hagenbrunn with many indoor courts, ideal during winter.
Padel hall / indoor hall: Especially in winter or during bad weather, many people prefer playing indoor padel in one of Vienna’s many padel halls.
Padel Happyland: In Klosterneuburg, at the Happyland sports complex, you can also play with Padelzone.
Padel History: Padel has existed in Vienna since 2014. The very first court in Vienna was built at Padel Union near to the Prater stadium.

Padel indoor: Vienna offers many opportunities to play indoors during winter or bad weather. Conditions are different from outdoor play, but it’s just as fun!
Padel in your area: If you live in Vienna, you’re lucky — there’s probably a padel venue near you. Today, you can find more than 20 padel courts in Vienna and its surrounding areas.

Padel La Ville: The Padel4Fun – La Ville venue is located at Kirchfeldgasse 5 in Vienna’s 23rd district.
Learn padel: Padel is super easy to learn! After a short time, you’ll already be able to rally and have fun.
Padel league austria: Yes, Austria has its own national padel league! You can find all current information on the Padel Austria website.
Padel Liesing: There are currently three padel venues in Vienna’s 23rd district, Liesing.
Padel live: Can you watch padel live? 📺 Of course! For example on Red Bull TV, Servus TV, DAZN, and YouTube.
Padel Lower Austria: Lower Austria, especially around Vienna, offers many opportunities to play padel. Popular locations include Bisamberg, Happyland Klosterneuburg, Padelzone Vösendorf, and Smash in Trumau.

Marco Polo: The venue Padelzone Floridsdorf is located directly next to the Marco Polo golf course, which is why some people mistakenly call it “Padel Marco Polo”.
Marswiese: This outdoor venue opened in July 2026. Here are the details about the padel location Marswiese in the 17th district.
Padel music: 🎶 🎶 Many professional players like listening to Latin American beats (e.g. Bad Bunny, Karol G) or upbeat pop/EDM (e.g. David Guetta, Calvin Harris) before matches. Spotify even has dedicated padel playlists such as “Padel Music 2026” or the playlist from Padeldome Alte Donau.

Padel outfit for women: To play padel comfortably, women also need proper sports clothing: breathable, comfortable, and easy to move in.
Padel outfit for men: The same applies to men: functional sportswear is essential.
Padel overgrip: To stop the racket from slipping, many players use an overgrip for better control and grip.

Padel points counting: Scoring in padel basically works like tennis: 15, 30, 40, game, set, match. At deuce/advantage, there are different formats such as advantage, golden point, or star point.
Padel Prater: This refers to the Padel Union Vienna venue, located opposite the Ernst Happel Stadium.
Padel pronunciation: “PA” like in pasta 🍝, “DELL” like in delivery 📦.

Padel scoring: See above: similar to tennis, but still slightly different, especially at 40:40. 🔢
Padel service rules: Unlike tennis, the ball must be hit below the hip when serving in padel, and the serve is played from low to high.
Padel shoes: Since padel is mostly played on artificial grass with sand, padel shoes often feature herringbone soles or hybrid patterns for better grip and injury prevention. 👟
Padel single court: For many players, this is an exotic version of padel because padel is usually played in doubles. However, single padel can be a great training option or useful when only two players are available.

Padel tennis: Many people call the sport “padel tennis”, although internationally and officially it is simply called “padel”. Here you’ll find information about the correct pronunciation and common confusions.
